Dewhorn 06:35
They caught it speaking to the trees the night they dreamed the same things When it roamed on the back of the Dewhorn they caught its whispers in the dirt All they could hear; “Soon I shall leave Soon I shall be forgot” The lords of a tumultuous land see light in the dark of all things bad When it tries to flee from the county they’ll catch it by its long, long hair All it will hear; “Last of your kind, you will be used for good meat”
2.
I hid under the bridge, blowing my thoughts to the sea I awoke in the water with the crumbling moon hanging over me How high could it be? I dove under the blue Glowing, the moon in my arms I dove so deep I broke a surface to our fading star hanging over me How high could it be?
3.
I was queen of the moons following my mothers before I was a sea stirrer like my mothers before Once when young I hung from the wrong stars Never doing what I was told And fell I did La la la landed in your fold And you were my first lover, silver finned creature Silver finned creature Shy one wished for the stinging of feet Why shun all this Atlantis? And he spoke of all his dreams to be leaping tree to tree to leaves to leaves So back I went, the moons afar, to make a spell to make it so ‘cause he was my first lover Sliver-foot creature Sliver-foot leaper

White Widow 02:57
In the shallows lies a rook I’m a white widow, legs are crossed In the windows, wooden walls I’m a white widow, legs are crossed Could I live so long that my body becomes a river? Could I reach so far with bones that never wither? Though they are not with me In a street light, I’m the ember as the moths die in the umber Fill the shadow Could I live so long that my body becomes a river? In the shallows lies a rook I’m a white widow, legs are crossed
6.
Sleep so softly in the summer time Sleep so softly when the sun is high And we dream until the stars all light up Oh we dream and we forget that we wake up Sleep so softly in the winter time Sleep so softly when the wind is high And we dream until the stars all light up Oh we dream and we forget we wake up
7.
White Maned 03:26
What roams the deep woods white maned? Whats hooves trot the rot that calls the cold rains? I rise a river, rise No creature sings a wild sorcery like this one No king knows under kingly brow They enter not the forest, so they meet not the white maned Nor see whence came the rain I rise a river, rise Rise a river, rise
8.
Sun Stirs 06:55
Sun stirs - resonates like thunder Valleys - shadows off her lashes Lashes out upon the umber Ashes settle in our bodies Flaunt it, die and drift to haunt it Whisper, nature listens Do you listen to it storming? Is it anything to hear? If you don’t see it, you don’t see it Is it anything to see? To the hills I will go Thigh-high in the brush with no lungs in me Sun stirs - resonates like thunder Valleys - shadows off her lashes Lashes out upon the umber Ashes settle in our bodies Flaunt it, die and drift to haunt it Whisper, nature listens
9.
Wispy sun, you have shone too long Your glow is unravelled, fallible Like all affable little lights, you’ll become far-faded figures Mammal things, you have grown too tall Your arms have reached too far for the rising sea, the flooded forest The hills are alive and the brush is burning There was painted a stormy sky The earth smolders, the oil dries Starry night, you are aged unfathomably so Unfathomably so

about

Recorded to tape in a half-flooded concrete basement Sleepy Creature is an honest and lulling testament to Carlson’s childhood obsession with fantasy, and conversely, their morose and oftentimes disconnected disposition toward the stark realities one experiences entering adulthood.
